The Chase Ink Business Preferred® Card comes with a huge welcome bonus and the ability to earn valuable rewards on business and travel expenses. It’s one of only three Chase credit cards that give you the ability to transfer Ultimate Rewards points to their airline and hotel partners. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® and Chase Sapphire Reserve® cards are the other two. If you’re serious about earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you need to own one of these cards.
Small business owners should find the Ink Business Preferred to be a solid all-around business credit card. In addition to earning 100,000 points after meeting the minimum spending requirements, you also get perks like cell phone protection, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, and primary rental car insurance.
Who is this card for?
Obviously since this is a business credit card, not everyone can apply. However, you don’t need to own a traditional business to apply for a business credit card. If you have a side hustle that makes money, you have a business.
You can also pair this card with the other Chase credit cards to pool points together. Chase currently offers two other business cards that earn Ultimate Rewards points, the Ink Business Cash® Card and the Ink Business Unlimited® Card.
Each Chase Ink business card has different earnings structures, so you can earn bonus points on almost all of your business spending. You can use the Ink Business Preferred for travel, shipping, digital advertising and cellphone spending and use the Ink Business Cash for office supplies, Internet and cable, gas and restaurants. Finally, for any spending that doesn’t earn bonus points, the Ink Business Unlimited is the card to use.

Card Features
Bonus Offer
You’ll earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first three months.
Annual Fee
The card comes with a $95 annual fee, which is not waived the first year.
Earning Rates
The earnings structure for the Chase Ink Business Preferred® Card is geared towards purchases in select business-related categories as well as travel. It earns 3x points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases on:
- Shipping
- Advertising made with social media sites and search engines
- Internet, cable and phone services
- Travel
Plus it earns an unlimited 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
The nice thing about the travel category is how broad it is. You can earn bonus points even if you aren’t actually traveling. Bonus points are earned on passenger trains, taxis, limos, Uber, Lyft, highway tolls, parking lots, garages and more.
Redeeming Points
The flexibility and value of Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are evident when redeeming them for travel. Points are worth 25% more when you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through the Chase travel portal. For example, 50,000 points are worth $625 towards travel. There are no blackout dates, so if there’s an open seat on the flight you want or an available room at a hotel, you can pay for it with points.
Points never expire and there are no limits.
The travel portal isn’t your only option, however. You can often get even greater value by transferring points to any of Chase’s 14 travel partners and really maximize your points!
You can transfer points to participating frequent travel programs at full 1:1 value – that means 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® points equals 1,000 partner miles/points.

Card Benefits
Lyft Rides
Earn 5x points on Lyft rides when you pay with your card through March 2025.
Primary Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
The vast majority of credit cards offer some type of coverage when it comes to auto rentals. However, there are two different coverage categories (primary and secondary) and knowing the difference is key. Secondary coverage is what most credit cards offer and it applies after your own personal auto insurance policy. Typically it means that your auto insurer pays the claim, but the card will reimburse your deductible and potentially other costs not covered by your personal policy.
Primary coverage, however, applies before your own personal auto insurance policy and will cover full damages due to collision or theft of most rental cars. That means you can avoid paying a deductible and potentially seeing your premiums rise.
There are only six consumer credit cards that offer primary auto rental CDW coverage:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred®
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- United℠ Explorer Card
- United Quest Card
- United Club Infinite Card
- Capital One Venture X Card
There are also five business credit cards that offer this as well. You’ll only be covered by primary insurance while renting for business purposes, renting outside your country of residence for personal reasons or if you do not have automobile insurance:
- Chase Ink Business Preferred® Card
- Chase Ink Business Cash® Card
- Chase Ink Business Unlimited® Card
- United Club℠ Business Card (only when renting for business purposes)
- United Business℠ Card (only when renting for business purposes)
Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance
If your trip can’t start, is cut short or interrupted by sickness, severe weather or other covered situations, you can be reimbursed for prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses up to $5,000 per person and $10,000 per trip.
Trip Delay Reimbursement
If your common carrier travel is delayed more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay, you and your family are covered for non-reimbursed expenses, such as meals and lodging, up to $500 per ticket.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
For those who travel internationally, this card does not charge foreign transaction fees.
Purchase Protection
This benefit covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account. As always, make sure you read the fine print for benefit terms and conditions. But you’ll sleep easy knowing your new, big purchases are covered.
Extended Warranty Protection
With this benefit, you can extend the time period of the U.S. manufacturer’s warranty by one additional year. This applies to eligible warranties of three years or less.
Cell Phone Protection
When you pay your monthly cell phone bill with your card, you can get up to $1,000 per claim if your cell phone is damaged or stolen. Coverage is limited to 3 claims in a 12 month period and each claim has a $100 deductible.
Bottom Line
If you’re a small business owner who has significant spending across the Chase Ink Business Preferred® Card’s four bonus categories, this card is a no-brainer. You’ll earn a ton of Chase Ultimate Rewards points and enjoy many travel and shopping protections as well. The most valuable of these is probably the cellphone protection, since there aren’t many cards which offer that.
Owning this card also opens up the ability to transfer points to any of Chase’s 14 travel partners, which brings the potential for big time value. It’s definitely worth a look, especially if you don’t own either of the Chase Sapphire cards.
